A Few of Our Favorite OC Farmers Markets

Shop Farmer’s Markets (Almost) Every Day of the Week

Local. Organic. Sustainable. Fresh. These are things we look for while at the Farmer’s Market. Although a majority of your time is spent shopping, this experience offers more than that. You get the opportunity to unplug and go outside with friends and family. You get to taste the fruit of farmer’s labors, sample freshly baked artisan bread, sip on sustainable delicious coffee and peruse hand-crafted goods made by locals. Gone are the days where farmers markets only offer produce, although a very important part of your experience. These markets have expanded to become a half-day activity with the amount of things that are available at these events. Some even offer yoga classes and live music performers for your viewing and listening pleasure. Farmer’s Markets have sparked so much interest that you can basically find one every day of the week (except Mondays, sorry) if you really only wanted to shop this way. Below, we list a few of our favorite markets and what not to miss when you visit.

Tuesday: Surf City Nights Downtown | Street Fair CFM | Main & Olive in Huntington Beach | 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Take your Taco Tuesday adventure to downtown Huntington Beach. This could be considered the most ‘happening’ Farmer’s Market available on a weeknight. Not only do you get your classic market staples, but you also get plenty of fun activities for the kids to keep them occupied, including bounce houses, street performers and crafts. If you choose to attend sans kids, you can always pop into one of the nearby bars afterward for a cocktail as you watch the sunset. The city blocks off traffic through Main street so you get that local neighborhood block party vibe. For more information on this event, check out their website here.

Wednesday: Irvine Kaiser Permanente CFM | 6640 Alton Parkway, Irvine CA | 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

You’re halfway through the week and running low on that fresh produce that you love so much. Lucky you, there is a market conveniently located in front of the medical office building at Kaiser Permanente. You can think of this location as a one-stop spot for a healthier, new you. Get your yearly physical with a bag a seasonal fresh produce. This isn’t your Sunday afternoon at the market experience. Instead, you’re in and out, and a nutritional locally sourced meal offered for dinner is the end result. And let’s be honest, when you connect with the farmer that grew the goods it will inevitably taste so much better. For more information on this event, check our their website here.

Thursday: Orange County Fairgrounds | 88 Fair Drive | 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

We all know and love the Orange County Fairgrounds. You’ve at least been here for the OC Fair during summer, but did you know that they offer a farmer’s market every Thursday in Lot D? Although you could consider your market shopping an event, admission and parking are free. People rave about how friendly and inviting this weekday market is, and they attribute it to the farmers, the location and the day of the week. Here, you can find Greek dips, garlic avocado oil and fresh and affordable organic produce among those hard-to-find quality items that farmers markets are known for. For more information on this event, check out their website here.

Friday: Anaheim Packing District | 412 S Anaheim Blvd | 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

As if you needed another reason to visit this area, located at Farmers Park right next to Anaheim Packing House, is a new urban market offering fresh, local goods to the residents and visitors of Anaheim. This market features local growers and ranchers, craft vendors and live entertainment, all centrally located in a beautiful two-acre park. If you plan ahead, consider making a reservation at The Blind Rabbit, the nearby speakeasy, for a recap over a craft cocktail. For more information on this event, visit their website here.

Saturday: SOCO Farmer’s Market | 3315 Hyland Ave | 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

But first, coffee. Start your Saturday market experience with a delicious cup of coffee from Portola, located at SOCO in Costa Mesa. Because really, it would be a crime if you went to SOCO and didn’t stop in at Portola. This farmers market features fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms, delicious raw honey, fresh eggs, almonds, meat and poultry. In addition to your grocery list necessities, this market also offers local gourmet food vendors at your fingertips, not to mention a yoga class. For more information on this event, you can check out their website here where you’ll discover farm tours, education and shopping tips.

Sunday: Newport Beach Pier | 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

We would definitely consider this the ultimate beach front farmer’s market in the area and highly encourage you to bring any out-of-town guests to this Sunday market. If the wind is blowing just right you can feel the sea spray against your cheek. Not only does this market come with an ocean view, you also have the famous Dory Fish Market in close proximity, offering an added bonus to your experience. Don’t you wish this is what grocery shopping always sounded like? Travel by bike and it’s the perfect way to spend a Sunday Funday in Newport Beach. For more information on this event, you can check out their website here where you’ll discover farm tours, education and shopping tips.
