Warm apple cider, cozy sweaters and crisp air, ah, the weather must be getting cooler. Unfortunately, living in Southern California, we often miss many of the seasonal attributes that make the changes of seasons so vibrant in other parts of the country. With days that are defined by record-breaking heat and allergy-inducing winds (we’re looking at you Santa Ana winds), it can be hard for us to get into the spirit. So when the weather outside is frightful, here are the five delightful ways to bring the holiday spirit into your home.
1. Faux Fur Accents
Bring the coziness of your favorite sweater into your home design with fax fur accents! Faux fur is becoming a huge trend in home accessories and what a better way to bring you into the spirit of sitting fireside with a mug of apple cider than the comforting softness of a faux fur throw, pillow, or both?
2. Set the Table
This time of year is often marked with the presence of friends and family, with meals that bring us together over the smell of roasted turkey and warm dinner rolls. It’s the heart of your home, so make sure that your dining room table is the center of attention, even when the guests are not over, by having elegant place settings and a festive centerpiece that showcase your seasonal style. Try mixing sophisticated white dishes with a colorful centerpiece that features pumpkins and twigs with berries for an elegant and rustic look.
3. Add Some Foliage
There is no better way to bring the outside in than by adding some green, and some oranges and browns, too, to your home. Filling colorful vases with oak leaf stems or crab apple branches will bring the natural elements of the season into your home while contributing to a subtly rustic sensibility. Interested in something a little more green? Try making a living succulent wreath that is not only festive for the season, but can also be featured in your home year round!
4. Change Up Your Pillows
When transitioning your home from season to season, one of the easiest ways to update your space is by changing up your pillows. If you have a neutral furniture palette, pillows can be your way of bringing pops of color, pattern, and style into a living space. Festive touches such as beading or metallic finishes can make your home holiday ready in no time.
5. Be Inspired by the Sights and Scents
One of the most beautiful parts of fall that Californians don’t often get to experience is the changing of the leaves. Bright reds, oranges and yellows are the hallmarks of the autumnal color palette. A great way to bring a pop of these colors into your home, while also filling it with the wonderful aromas of the season, is with candles! For instance, a bright red candle can do double duty as both a colorful accent and as a means of filling your home with the sweet scent of warm apple cider.
