The Galley Celebrates 55 Years…
A true “secret spot” The Galley is a tiny diner surrounded by million dollar homes on Harbor Island Drive in Newport Beach. A great place to grab some breakfast before or after a morning of surfing, biking, or just rolling out of bed. Throw on your casual clothes and expect some comforting food in a unique atmosphere.
There are no reservations and part of the Galley experience is the waiting outside, on a wooden bench, making friends with other hungry locals. There is a special feeling of camaraderie among the waiting patrons, who know and honor the order in which they arrived. The view of a small harbor full of fabulous yachts contradicts the unpretentiousness of this simple little cafe.
There are diners in every shopping mall in every city. The Galley is different. It is not contrived. It is real. With a vintage malt machine and cash register as the backdrop, sitting at the counter is an experience of Americana, different from the feeling of table seating, surrounded by local families.
Favorite breakfast items are the chili cheese omelet or the corned beef hash – paired with a chocolate malt. For lunch or an early dinner there are thick handmade shakes and cherry cokes from the original old fashioned soda fountain, along with hearty sandwiches and beer or wine.
Leave your credit card at home, as they accept only cash or checks.
